Swanie Khoo is a qualified Marriage and Family Counsellor and Psychotherapist. She has journeyed with many whose lives are broken by tragedy and trauma; worked with couples and individuals to rebuild their relationships and lives. Also, an experienced Coach, she has helped individuals grow through transitions and career change; consulted leaders of organizations toward change and greater emotional connection and personal transformation. She believes in harnessing every individual’s potential toward growth, healing, mental wellness and wholeness.

Swanie holds a Masters of Arts (Counseling) and is a Trauma Therapist with the Singapore Trauma Network for Children (KKH). She is also an accredited facilitator for Prepare/Enrich Marriage Program, and accredited trainer/facilitator for Parenting with Confidence workshops. In addition to the professional work, she volunteers with OvertheRainbow.org and Focus on the Family Singapore, as a workshop trainer/facilitator, promoting mental health wellness for youth and family life.

The therapeutic journey with couples and individuals will be based on an integration of scientifically grounded psychodynamic psychotherapy, Gottman Method Couples’ Therapy (trained in Level 1 & 2) and emotion-focused interventions (completed training in  Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy). She has a wide-spectrum of experience working with couples, parents and children, and individuals across a range of mental health, interpersonal and behavioural issues. Her experience is culminated through years of counseling practice – mainly working with couples and individuals. She helps couples work through their conflicts by understanding their negative interaction cycle, and by breaking down their barriers in communication. She helps couples address unmet needs and underlying emotions and to interact in more loving, responsive and more emotionally connected ways which results in a more enduring and secured relationship. Her counseling work also spans from experience of working with residents at the Girls’ Home (Andrew and Grace Home, and St Georges Residency), where she works with adolescents/teenagers, and youths-at-risk, victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Swanie is a Malaysian based in Singapore for more than 19 years. She is happily married to a Singaporean and they have four children. Prior to making a career change to counselling and psychotherapy, she was in human resources management for over 10 years within the banking and public accounting industry.
