Swanie Khoo is a qualified Marriage and Family Counsellor, trained Trauma Therapist and Family Life Educator. She has journeyed with many whose lives are broken by tragedy and trauma; worked with individuals, couples and families to rebuild their lives and relationships. Also an experienced Coach, she has helped individuals grow through transitions and career change; consulted leaders of organizations toward change and greater emotional connection and transformation. She believes in harnessing every individual’s potential toward growth, healing, mental wellness and wholeness.
Swanie holds a Masters of Arts (Counseling) and is a trauma therapist with the Singapore Trauma Network for Children (KKH). She is also an accredited facilitator for Prepare/Enrich, and accredited trainer/facilitator for Parenting with Confidence workshops. In addition to the professional work, she volunteers with OvertheRainbow.org and Focus on the Family Singapore, as a workshop trainer/facilitator, promoting mental health wellness for youth and family life.
She has a wide-spectrum of experience working with couples, children and their families, and individuals across a range of mental health, interpersonal and behavioral issues. Her experience is culminated through years of counseling practice - working with couples, and volunteering at the Girls’ Home (Andrew and Grace Home, and St Georges Residency), where she works with adolescents/teenagers, and youths-at-risk, victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment. Her work mainly draws from scientifically grounded psychodynamic approaches, Gottman‘s Method for couples’ work (trained in Level 1 & 2) and emotion-focused interventions (EFCT). As for child and family therapy, she integrates therapeutic approaches from play therapy, Theraplay, and trauma-focused CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help families, enhance parent and child attachment, build self-esteem, and emotional connection.
Swanie is a Malaysian based in Singapore for more than 18 years. She is happily married to a Singaporean and they have four children aged between 4 and 12 years old. Prior to making a career change to counselling and psychotherapy, she was in human resources management for over 10 years within the banking and public accounting industry. She’s passionate about helping individuals and families, and her mission is to bring hope and healing to those who are hurting in their relationships, and empowering them toward a purpose, finding meaning, and wholeness.
Swanie’s clinical hours are Tuesday 2.30pm-9.00pm, and Friday 10.00 am - 5pm, by appointment only.
